FamilySearch’s Ordering Service

FamilySearch’s Microfilm Ordering service is your gateway to a vast collection of genealogical and historical records. To order a microfilm or microfiche please follow these steps:

  1. Go to the website https://www.familysearch.org/
  2. Choose ‘Catalog’ (under the words "Discover Your Family HIstory") by clicking on the blue title. It is set to search by place name (or you can make a selection from the drop-down list).
  3. Type the name of the parish, place, county, state, province or country. You will be given a description of the place(s) from which to choose. Now click on the ‘search’ button.
  4. A list of subject headings will appear that contain information about the place that you selected. Click on the subject heading to review the list of available items.
  5. Click on the blue title for additional information including the microfilm number (you may have to scroll down the page to find it).
  6. You will notice at the top right of the page there is a print icon. It is a good idea to print the page so that you have the details of the film (or fiche) that you want to order.
  7. The service allows you to order films for loan online at https://film.familysearch.org/. The loan is free, but there is a small shipping and handling charge for each film. You pay online when placing the order.
  8. Films are sent to a family history centre of your choosing, where you can view them at no cost. You will be called when the film arrives.

 Family History Centre Resources

Qualicum Beach Family History Centre holds a number of microfilm records; hundreds of microfiche records and a collection of binders created by Society members and containing helpful resources.  Over time our aim is to index these resources so that you can determine if there is any information there that might be relevant to your area of research.  It will also allow you to check the contents of microfilm and microfiche you may be thinking of ordering. Qualicum Beach FHC Resource Records.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' Nanaimo Family History Centre has a similar catalogue and it can be searched here
