Featured Speaker, Dr. Michael Tripp, will speak about Necrogeography: Landscapes of the Dead. Cemeteries have always been an integral part of my life, beginning in early childhood with frequent visits to an Eastern Orthodox cemetery where generations of relatives and friends were buried. What began as a duty increasingly became a source of inspiration and understanding, first within the cemetery I knew best and then well beyond its borders. Each new site brought with it revelations about the individuals within, their relations to each other, the perspectives of their times and the societies to which they belonged. Taken collectively these traits produce landscapes specific to their cultures - their necrogeographies - some discoveries and insights of which I would like to share with you.
