Marie Palmer is a professional genealogist, speaker, and writer based in British Columbia. Her expertise is in United Kingdom and genetic genealogy research and she is passionate about helping others share the stories of their ancestors through writing and fun technologies such as Google Earth Pro. In addition to a Master of Science in Information Science and Library Management, Marie holds bachelor degrees in Education and Engineering, a Certificate in Genealogical Research from Boston University, and was co-chair of her ProGen study group. Marie has taught extensively over the past twenty years, has worked for Legacy Tree Genealogists, and recently taught the multi-week institute course “Using Google Earth Pro to Enhance and Share Your Research” at the Applied Genealogy Institute (https://appliedgen.institute/using-google-earth-pro).

You’ve worked hard to collect records for your ancestors, but how do you know you have the right records for the right people? This talk gives tips on how to find and evaluate records and ensure your research is top-notch. Using the Genealogical Proof Standard (GPS) as our guide, we’ll discuss a compelling case study that seemed watertight… until it wasn’t.
